Proverbs 18:21 “The tongue has the power of life and death…”
This devotion really opened my eyes and made me take a close look at what I say to myself, especially during the hard times, or the times when I am not succeeding, or when I am emotionally struggling.
I know I am not alone in saying less-than-nice things about myself, I know that you too look in the mirror and don’t always love what you see. I know that you give your all to something to only have it flop and leave you feeling like a big ‘ol failure.
I want you to think about the thoughts that go through your head.
I want you to think about the words that come out of your mouth.
Why don’t you write a few of them down and take a look at them?
I would bet that you would never say the things you say to and about yourself to your best friend if she were struggling- you would build her up, tell her all will be well, that this is only a temporary setback, that she is beautiful, and on and on and on. And ALL of it would be good, encouraging.
Because that’s what we do for our friends.
I want to encourage you to do that for yourself.
Tell yourself exactly the same thing you’d tell your friends- you’re beautiful, you’re smart, you’re strong, you’re an overcomer, this is only temporary, great things are coming, and more!
You have the power, to build yourself up or tear yourself down. The power to create a good day out of a bad one. The power to create exactly the life you want to live.
And it all starts with what you say!
Next time the stuff hits the fan check yourself and your words.
